Introduction
After becoming pregnant, many women notice that their nipples darken, which some may find less aesthetically pleasing. This change occurs due to increased secretion of melanocyte-stimulating hormone (MSH) during pregnancy, leading to elevated melanin production in the body. In addition to darkening of the nipples, this hormonal shift can also cause hyperpigmentation in other areas, including the areolae, the linea alba (the vertical line running down the center of the abdomen), and the external genitalia.

After becoming pregnant, many women notice that their nipples darken, which may appear less aesthetically pleasing. This change occurs due to increased secretion of melanocyte-stimulating hormone during pregnancy, leading to elevated melanin levels in the body. Besides darkening of the nipples, this pigmentation change may also affect the areolae, the linea alba (the vertical line running down the center of the abdomen), and the external genitalia. Pregnant women need not worry about these changes, as the hyperpigmentation typically resolves spontaneously after childbirth and requires no special treatment.
