Introduction
Postmenopausal women are prone to developing vaginitis. This is because, as ovarian function progressively declines, estrogen secretion in the body continuously decreases. Consequently, the vaginal pH balance is disrupted, leading to a reduction in local vaginal resistance and rendering the vagina highly susceptible to infection and subsequent inflammation. When inflammation occurs, women may experience a burning sensation in the vagina, among other symptoms.

In daily life, women may experience mild to moderate vaginal discomfort. Mild cases often involve slight itching, while more severe cases may cause a burning, stinging pain inside the vagina. Typically, women only seek medical attention—and recognize the seriousness of the issue—once the discomfort becomes pronounced.

What Causes a Burning, Stinging Pain in the Vagina?

1. Gynecological inflammation: Postmenopausal women are particularly susceptible to vaginal inflammation. As ovarian function gradually declines, estrogen levels drop significantly, disrupting the natural pH balance of the vagina and weakening local immunity. This makes the vagina more vulnerable to bacterial invasion and subsequent inflammation. In addition to a burning sensation, affected women commonly experience varying degrees of itching.

2. Urinary tract disorders: Obstruction in the upper segment of the ureter can trigger severe unilateral flank pain, which may radiate downward into the vagina or inner thigh.

3. Anxiety and emotional stress: Psychological factors such as anxiety and emotional distress can significantly amplify pain perception. For instance, women with chronic gynecological inflammation who experience heightened anxiety or tension may find their symptoms—including itching and burning pain—worsening. Therefore, maintaining a relaxed and positive mindset in daily life is equally essential for overall well-being.

We hope the above information is helpful. Wishing you a happy and healthy life!
