Why does eating eggs or chicken trigger eczema?
Eggs are a food rich in high-quality protein and suitable for people of all ages. However, individuals with allergic constitutions—especially infants—may develop allergic reactions after consuming eggs, such as eczema. So, why does eating eggs or chicken trigger eczema?
Why does eating eggs or chicken trigger eczema?
Eczema triggered by egg consumption occurs because eggs are a common allergenic food. The primary allergen is the foreign (heterologous) protein found in egg whites. Therefore, eggs—and all egg-containing products—should be strictly avoided during active eczema to prevent worsening of symptoms. It is recommended to keep the skin clean and dry; avoid alkaline bath gels during bathing, pat the skin dry thoroughly afterward, and apply a gentle, hypoallergenic moisturizer to maintain skin hydration. Scratching should be prevented. In severe cases, topical anti-eczema ointments (e.g., corticosteroid creams) or Bao Bao Frost may be used, or calamine lotion may be applied externally for symptomatic relief.

If any infant or child develops an allergic reaction after eating eggs, egg consumption must be stopped immediately. Eczema is a chronic allergic condition; therefore, upon onset of eczema related to egg ingestion, all forms of eggs and egg-derived products should be avoided for at least 4–6 months. After this period, a small amount of egg may be cautiously reintroduced while closely monitoring for any adverse reaction. If no reaction occurs, gradual reintroduction may continue. In infants, egg-induced eczema primarily results from the allergenic nature of eggs—particularly due to their relatively high protein content. Infants with an allergic constitution or compromised immunity may have difficulty digesting these proteins, thereby increasing susceptibility to eczema.

Maintain skin cleanliness and dryness, and observe dietary restrictions. For individuals who develop eczema after eating eggs, intake of high-protein foods should be minimized. We hope this information is helpful to you!
