How long does it take to recover after cervical laser treatment?
Laser therapy is a form of physical therapy. If cervical lesions are present, laser treatment may be considered. Laser energy can effectively ablate (destroy) abnormal cervical tissue. However, it typically takes about one month for the cervix to gradually return to normal following the procedure. Cervical laser therapy offers several clinical benefits, as outlined below:
Cervical laser therapy not only exerts anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects but also helps control bleeding and alleviate pain, thereby promoting disease recovery. Significant postoperative bleeding is uncommon, and the procedure itself is relatively brief. Primarily, laser therapy removes abnormal tissue from the cervical surface, stimulating the formation of new healthy tissue at the treatment site—thus achieving therapeutic goals for cervical inflammation. Moreover, laser treatment causes minimal discomfort and generally does not require anesthesia, making it well-tolerated by patients.
The management of cervical lesions depends on whether they are low-grade or high-grade. For low-grade lesions, routine close monitoring is usually unnecessary; instead, follow-up with liquid-based cytology (e.g., Pap smear) every 3–6 months is recommended. If results remain negative, patients may resume routine screening, with annual testing thereafter. In contrast, if cervical biopsy confirms a high-grade lesion, surgical intervention is advised to further evaluate and manage the cervical pathology.
