The normal reference range for highly sensitive thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) is generally 0.27–4.2 mU/L.

Highly sensitive TSH is secreted by the pituitary gland and regulates local thyroid function. Serum TSH concentration is a highly sensitive indicator of thyroid function and is also used in the diagnosis of hyperthyroidism. In cases of hyperthyroidism, TSH levels are typically below 0.27 mU/L. This occurs because the pituitary’s regulatory response to thyroid hormones is diminished, leading to elevated local thyroid hormone levels and resulting in a constellation of clinical symptoms.

Maintaining TSH within the normal range not only stabilizes thyroid function but also supports the balanced secretion of other hormones—including cortisol, estrogen, and progesterone—and contributes positively to blood glucose regulation. Therefore, in clinical practice, when endocrine disorders—particularly thyroid diseases—are present, controlling TSH levels is essential.

For daily health maintenance, a light, bland diet is recommended; spicy and irritating foods should be avoided. Adequate rest is important, and excessive physical or mental fatigue should be prevented to safeguard overall health.
