Introduction
Non-uniform fatty liver is not severe. Fatty liver can be classified into two types: uniform and non-uniform. Non-uniform fatty liver—also known as focal fatty liver or focal hepatic steatosis—is a rare, special subtype of fatty liver disease. Ultrasound serves as a diagnostic tool for such lesions; however, due to their atypical ultrasound appearance, these lesions are frequently misdiagnosed as hepatic hemangiomas or intrahepatic space-occupying lesions.

Many people are familiar with fatty liver disease in daily life, yet few have heard of “heterogeneous fatty liver.” Most patients know little about this condition—so how serious is heterogeneous fatty liver?

Is Heterogeneous Fatty Liver Serious?

Heterogeneous fatty liver is generally not serious. Fatty liver disease is broadly categorized into two types: homogeneous and heterogeneous. Heterogeneous fatty liver—also known as focal fatty liver or focal hepatic steatosis—is a relatively rare, specialized subtype of fatty liver. Ultrasound serves as a key diagnostic tool for such lesions; however, due to their atypical ultrasound appearance, these lesions are frequently misdiagnosed as hepatic hemangiomas or other intrahepatic space-occupying lesions.

Patients with fatty liver disease should abstain from alcohol and consume more vegetables and fruits. Energy intake should be moderate—not excessive—and light physical activity is recommended while avoiding fatigue. For patients with fatty liver whose body weight falls within the normal range, daily caloric intake should be carefully controlled to prevent weight gain and subsequent fat accumulation. Dietary strategies that promote liver health include incorporating a variety of colorful foods. Meals should be prepared thoughtfully: combining whole and refined grains, ensuring nutritional balance and adequate protein intake—all of which help reduce intrahepatic fat. Additionally, patients should engage in appropriate aerobic exercise, such as jogging, brisk walking, badminton, or table tennis.

Furthermore, individuals experiencing symptoms should seek timely medical evaluation and follow their physician’s guidance for appropriate management. We hope this information proves helpful!
