Introduction
Strawberry nose refers to hardened sebum plugs. These commonly appear on the forehead, nose, and other areas of the face. When facial sebaceous glands are overstimulated, pores become filled with excess sebum. If not promptly cleansed, the sebaceous glands become clogged, resulting in an oily sensation around the nose and face. Over time, this sebum hardens and oxidizes, forming small black dots.

In daily life, an increasing number of people are paying attention to facial appearance concerns. Some particularly detail-oriented individuals focus on specific areas—“strawberry nose” being one of the most common issues. So, what exactly is a strawberry nose?

What Is a Strawberry Nose?

A “strawberry nose” refers to hardened sebum plugs that clog pores. These commonly appear on the forehead and nose. When facial sebaceous glands become overstimulated, excess sebum accumulates within the pores. If not promptly cleansed, this sebum can obstruct the pores, resulting in an oily sensation around the nasal tip and surrounding facial areas. Over time, the accumulated sebum oxidizes and solidifies into small black dots—known medically as open comedones (blackheads) and colloquially as “strawberry nose.”

The most common treatment for strawberry nose is fractional laser therapy. This procedure uses the thermal energy of lasers to target and sterilize the hair follicles, suppress excessive sebum production, and effectively remove blackheads. Results are typically noticeable, with cleaner, smoother, and more refined nasal skin. Fractional laser treatment is relatively safe: because it delivers controlled, low-level thermal energy, the risk of skin injury is minimal when performed by a qualified practitioner. There is no open wound post-treatment, recovery is relatively rapid, and normal daily activities—including work—are minimally disrupted. Moreover, this approach addresses the underlying cause, thereby significantly reducing the likelihood of recurrence.

In everyday life, maintaining proper facial protection and thorough cleansing helps prevent pore blockage and associated conditions such as strawberry nose. We hope this information proves helpful!
