Introduction
Soybean sprouts are not recommended for individuals with gout. People with gout are advised to consume more vegetables and fruits that are low in purines. Although bean sprouts resemble vegetables, they actually contain very high levels of purines—up to 500 mg of purines per 100 g—making them a high-purine food. Therefore, bean sprouts are not recommended for gout patients at any stage of the disease. Gout patients should also avoid vegetables derived from sprouted legumes.

In daily life, most patients with hyperuricemia suffer from recurrent gout attacks, during which persistent joint pain severely impairs their normal daily activities and work performance. So, can people with gout eat soybean sprouts?

Can people with gout eat soybean sprouts?

People with gout are generally advised to avoid soybean sprouts. Instead, they should prioritize low-purine vegetables and fruits. Moderately high-purine foods may be consumed in limited quantities, but total intake must be carefully controlled. High-purine foods, however, are strongly discouraged. Although soybean sprouts resemble other vegetables, they actually contain very high levels of purines—approximately 500 mg per 100 g—classifying them as a high-purine food. Therefore, individuals with gout should avoid all types of sprouted legumes, regardless of disease stage. Moreover, legumes themselves are classified as moderately high-purine foods; thus, they are not recommended during acute gout flares, though small amounts may be acceptable during intercritical (non-acute) periods.

To enhance uric acid excretion, drink plenty of water daily. Maintain a healthy weight by controlling overall caloric intake while incorporating appropriate physical activity. Limit or avoid alcohol consumption. Adopt a balanced diet that restricts high-purine foods—including organ meats, lean meats, and most seafood—to moderate amounts. In daily life, choose a healthy, well-rounded diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

Gout poses serious risks to human health and warrants prompt attention and proper management. We hope this information is helpful to you. Wishing you good health and a joyful life!
