Which types of corn can people with diabetes eat?
Disease description:
I’m off work and planning to buy some corn to steam at home, but my grandmother has diabetes. Which type of corn is suitable for people with diabetes?
Patients with diabetes are advised to control their portion sizes at each meal. When blood glucose levels are well-controlled within the target range, corn may be consumed in moderation; however, sweet corn should be avoided as it may cause spikes in blood glucose and related complications. In general, patients should limit intake of high-sugar foods, fatty meats, and meat-based broths. Instead, they should emphasize whole grains and foods rich in dietary fiber.
