What is the normal range for insulin?
Disease description:
During my recent checkup, I found that my blood glucose level is somewhat elevated. My doctor recommended a follow-up test to measure my insulin level. Could you please tell me the normal reference range for insulin?
The reference normal fasting insulin level for adults is 3.0–24.9 pmol/mL. Typically, after detecting elevated blood glucose levels, clinicians assess insulin levels to determine the type of diabetes. Diabetes is classified into two main types: Type 1 diabetes, caused by impaired insulin secretion leading to insufficient insulin in the body; and Type 2 diabetes, resulting from decreased insulin receptor sensitivity, which reduces insulin’s effectiveness.
