In general, a heart rate of 160–180 beats per minute (bpm) following intense physical activity is still considered within the normal range. However, if the heart rate exceeds 200 bpm, this is abnormal and indicative of tachycardia; an electrocardiogram (ECG) or Holter monitor (ambulatory ECG) should be performed to clarify the underlying cause. Additionally, if the heart rate exceeds 200 bpm, it is advisable to avoid high-intensity exercise temporarily, as this may increase the risk of ventricular arrhythmias.
