Does Hypotonia Necessarily Indicate Cerebral Palsy?
Disease description:
Recently, I suddenly suffered a stroke and was hospitalized for several days. Now, I have leg weakness and am unable to walk. May I ask: Does low muscle tone necessarily indicate cerebral palsy?
A patient presenting with hypotonia does not necessarily have cerebral palsy. Hypotonia may also result from muscular atrophy or other neuromuscular disorders. When hypotonia is observed, the patient should undergo a comprehensive physical examination at a hospital. Causes of marked hypotonia may include cerebral hypoplasia or abnormalities in cerebrovascular development.
