San Bai Tang (Three-White Decoction) is a traditional Chinese herbal formula prepared from three medicinal herbs: Paeoniae Radix Alba (Bai Shao), Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Bai Zhu), and Poria (Bai Fu Ling). Bai Shao exerts beautifying and skin-nourishing effects, possesses anti-aging properties, helps fade freckles and melasma, moisturizes the skin, and tonifies Qi and nourishes blood. Bai Zhu is commonly used to strengthen the stomach, aid digestion, promote salivation, relieve thirst, and support fetal health during pregnancy. Bai Fu Ling also contributes to skin beautification and whitening. Consequently, San Bai Tang helps improve skin condition and reduce fine lines around the eyes (crow’s feet) and nasolabial folds, making it an excellent tonic for both beauty enhancement and general wellness. Contraindications for San Bai Tang include: 1. Individuals with known allergies to any of the herbal ingredients or related foods should avoid its use. 2. Patients with Spleen deficiency manifesting as loose stools or frequent diarrhea should not take this formula.
