Leukemia patients experience nosebleeds primarily due to a progressive decline in platelet count, which may manifest as recurrent bleeding and prolonged bleeding time. In addition to epistaxis, mucosal bleeding may occur at various sites—including gingival bleeding, petechiae, and ecchymoses—often spontaneously, without any history of trauma or impact. Leukemia patients should avoid forceful nose-blowing or using fingers to pick at the nasal mucosa. For active epistaxis, prompt medical attention is advised; hemostasis can be achieved using gelatin sponge packing in the nasal cavity.
