How long does it take for an anal fissure to heal?
Disease description:
I have an anal fissure and am currently undergoing treatment. How long will it take to recover?
After developing an anal fissure, symptoms typically begin to improve within approximately four days with prompt, standardized treatment. However, during treatment, patients must ensure regular, soft bowel movements. Excessive straining during defecation may cause the fissure to repeatedly reopen, impeding healing and prolonging recovery time. Additionally, long-standing anal fissures may progress to chronic (or “old”) fissures, which are more complex to treat.
