I’ve been feeling excessively sleepy and unable to wake up properly for a while, so I went to the hospital for evaluation and was diagnosed with narcolepsy. Could you please tell me what medications are used to treat narcolepsy?

Dr. Yang Jun
Narcolepsy can currently be treated with novel central nervous system stimulants, such as armodafinil or extended-release methylphenidate. Concurrently, patients should engage in self-management strategies—for example, scheduling regular short naps during the day to alleviate excessive daytime sleepiness and thereby reduce the required dosage of stimulant medications. Additionally, cognitive and behavioral therapies can further support recovery from narcolepsy.
