Patients with hand-foot-and-mouth disease (HFMD) may also develop vesicles on the body, typically more numerous on the hands and feet. HFMD is generally caused by over 20 different viruses; symptoms vary depending on the specific virus involved. Clinically common causative agents include Coxsackievirus A6 and Coxsackievirus A10. Following infection, patients commonly develop maculopapular rashes across the entire body, while classic vesicular lesions are relatively uncommon. In uncomplicated cases, HFMD usually resolves spontaneously within approximately seven days. Treatment primarily involves antiviral therapy and medications that clear heat and eliminate toxins.
