What Causes Tinea Manuum and Tinea Pedis?
Disease description:
I’ve had tinea manuum and tinea pedis for the past few months, with severe peeling, ulceration, and cracking on my hands and feet. Due to work commitments, I delayed treatment; although the condition improved with medication, it has since recurred. I’d like to understand what causes this disease.
Tinea manuum and tinea pedis result from poor hygiene, compromised individual immunity, and contact with pathogenic fungi. Tinea manuum refers to a fungal infection caused by dermatophytes, commonly affecting the fingertips, palms, and the smooth skin on the palmar surface. Tinea pedis primarily involves the interdigital spaces, heels, and lateral margins of the feet. This condition is mainly caused by infection with *Trichophyton rubrum*, *Trichophyton mentagrophytes*, *Microsporum gypseum*, and *Epidermophyton floccosum*.
