Xerostomia (dry mouth), excessive production of thick phlegm, and increased salivation are initially suggestive of respiratory tract infections such as pharyngitis or bronchitis. However, other conditions—including diabetes mellitus and hyperthyroidism—cannot be ruled out. Respiratory tract infections involve inflammation of the airways and typically manifest with symptoms such as throat dryness, edema, and pain. It is recommended that the patient undergo comprehensive evaluations, including blood glucose testing, and receive treatment tailored to the specific diagnosis and clinical presentation.
