How to Treat Tinea (Ringworm)
Disease description:
Recently, I’ve developed numerous red patches on my body. After checking online, I found they might be tinea (fungal skin infection). How should tinea be treated?
Tinea infections of the skin can be treated with topical medications, systemic drugs, or surgical interventions. In cases caused by fungal infection—most commonly tinea corporis—antifungal agents are typically used. Examples include terbinafine hydrochloride cream and miconazole cream. Oral antifungals such as itraconazole and fluconazole may also be prescribed as adjunctive therapy. For psoriasis, however, phototherapy—specifically infrared and ultraviolet light therapy—is recommended; patients should seek prompt medical evaluation and treatment at a hospital.
