Can calamine lotion be used after mosquito bites?
Disease description:
I’ve been bitten by a mosquito. I have a bottle of calamine lotion at home—can I use it after mosquito or insect bites?
Calamine lotion can be used for mosquito bites. Calamine is a commonly used topical agent in dermatology, primarily employed to relieve symptoms such as pruritus (itching). Mosquito bites often manifest as urticaria, clinically presenting as red papules on the limbs and trunk; severe cases may develop vesicles, bullae, and intense pruritus. Calamine lotion can alleviate itching associated with mosquito bites to some extent and may be used in conjunction with topical application of desonide ointment.
