Hello, tenosynovitis is an inflammatory condition occurring at the junction between tendons and tendon sheaths in the hand. It is primarily caused by repetitive or excessive short-term tendon movement, or by chronic cold exposure, leading to inflammatory responses and fibrous degeneration within the tendon sheath. This results in thickening of the sheath and narrowing of the tendon sheath canal, thereby restricting tendon mobility within the canal. Concurrently, the inflammation causes localized pain. Tenosynovitis is a non-bacterial inflammatory disorder. Mild cases may be managed with massage therapy or acupuncture, whereas more severe cases typically require surgical intervention—namely, incision and partial excision of the constricted portion of the tendon sheath to relieve compression on the tendon.
