What should I do about onychomycosis (gray nail)?
Disease description:
I have developed onychomycosis (fungal nail infection) on several of my toes—it looks unsightly, and trimming the nails is difficult. What should I do about onychomycosis?
Onychomycosis (fungal nail infection) is primarily treated with medications. Topical antifungal agents—such as 5% amorolfine nail lacquer—may be applied as prescribed by a physician. In more severe cases, oral antifungal therapy—such as itraconazole or terbinafine—may be added under medical supervision. Alternative treatments—including laser therapy and photodynamic therapy—are available but generally demonstrate lower efficacy compared to pharmacological treatment. Additionally, individuals with onychomycosis should regularly change shoes and socks to help prevent reinfection and promote recovery.
