Itching of the skin around the joints may be caused by exposure to cold. When cold invades the joint area, it can impair local blood circulation, leading to itching in the affected joints. It is recommended to keep the affected area warm, which helps alleviate symptoms. Joint itching may also result from underlying medical conditions. For instance, in patients with lumbar disc herniation, compression of nerve roots can cause a crawling or ant-like itching sensation in the lower limb joints. It is advisable to minimize weight-bearing on the affected area to help relieve symptoms.
