Disease description:

About a year ago, I was bitten by a mosquito. It was extremely itchy at the time, and I scratched it until the skin broke. Later, I suddenly noticed a scar had formed. I’d like to know how to treat scars resulting from mosquito bites.

If the scar results from a puncture wound, it is typically considered post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and often resolves spontaneously within several months. Alternatively, topical depigmenting agents may be used as prescribed by a physician. For scars resulting from excision of skin lesions, initial pharmacological treatment is recommended; laser therapy may be considered if necessary. Scars caused by localized inflammatory reactions—such as those exacerbated by scratching—and subsequent post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation may be treated with topical anthraquinone preparations combined with oral vitamin C, which exhibits some pigment-lightening effects. Patients are advised to avoid scratching after mosquito bites to prevent scar formation.
