What Are the Symptoms of Paronychia?
Disease description:
I’m not sure whether I actually have paronychia—there’s some swelling beside my big toe. What are the symptoms of paronychia?
Paronychia presents with several symptoms. The affected toe becomes painful—especially when walking and the toe rubs against the shoe’s upper surface, causing severe pain. The skin surrounding the nail fold becomes red, swollen, and warm to the touch. In more severe cases, pus formation and exudation may occur. The toenail may become deformed or damaged, and in extreme cases, nail growth may cease entirely. If the infection spreads, it can lead to osteomyelitis.
