Topical agents—e.g., rectal suppositories or anal inserts—may also be used concurrently to alleviate pain. If symptoms persist despite conservative management, surgical intervention may be required, such as fissurectomy or lateral internal sphincterotomy. Postoperatively, proper wound care is essential to prevent infection.
