Dr. Zhang Liwen
Peeling inside the mouth can result from both physiological and pathological causes. Physiological causes refer to the natural turnover of oral mucosal cells; during this renewal process, metabolic byproducts are shed. Pathological causes include *Candida albicans* infection, which manifests as white patches on the oral mucosa—once these patches slough off, they expose a bright red, raw surface. Additionally, vitamin deficiencies and salivary gland dysfunction (leading to xerostomia) can cause oral dryness and subsequent peeling.
