How long does it take to receive cervical cancer screening results?
Disease description:
I have suffered from cervicitis for many years and am very concerned about disease progression, so I underwent cervical cancer screening. How long does it take to receive the results of cervical cancer screening?
Current cervical cancer screening includes two tests: cytology (Pap smear) and HPV testing, with results typically available within three days. If the cervical cancer screening result is negative, routine screening is generally recommended every three years. If the test is positive, some patients may be found to have early precancerous lesions—i.e., early-stage cervical cancer—and in cases where the lesion progresses or enlarges over time, further evaluation by an oncology specialist is required. High-risk HPV infection is the most common cause of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) and cervical cancer. Once HPV infection occurs, it can induce inflammatory changes—including cervical erosion—leading to increased vaginal discharge.
