What Causes Itchy Teeth?
Disease description:
It’s extremely hot, so I bought a watermelon to eat. The more I ate, the itchier my teeth became. I’ve already switched to desensitizing toothpaste, but the itching persists. What could be causing this dental itching?
Causes include pulpitis and chronic apical periodontitis. If pulpitis is not treated promptly, infectious agents may spread through the apical foramen into the alveolar bone surrounding the root apex, leading to inflammatory exudate—and even abscess formation—within the alveolar bone. This may result in inflammatory granulomas, abscesses, or even cysts in the alveolar bone. Clinically, the predominant symptoms are prolonged discomfort during occlusion and, in some cases, a sensation of gingival swelling. Pain associated with chronic apical periodontitis is typically mild or nonspecific, often manifesting as a dull, itchy, or achy discomfort in the affected tooth.
