Total iron dose calculation for iron deficiency anemia injection
Disease description:
How much iron should be injected for iron deficiency anemia? How to calculate the total dose of iron injection?
The dose of intravenous iron should be accurately calculated using the following formula: required iron supplementation (mg) = (150 - patient's Hb) × body weight (kg) × 0.33.
In individual patients, if anemia persists or serum ferritin does not reach the target level after treatment, the dose may be appropriately increased—for example, by administering an additional week of therapy—which can meet the needs of most patients. Even without using the formula, patients can still receive adequate iron supplementation.
