Hand pain caused by tenosynovitis requires adequate rest, and exposure of the wrist to cold should be avoided. During the acute phase, immobilization of the wrist joint with a splint or brace is recommended. For pain relief, anti-inflammatory and analgesic medications can be taken orally. Topical applications such as plasters promoting blood circulation, removing blood stasis, reducing swelling, and relieving pain may also be used. Local treatments including acupuncture and physical therapy—such as infrared radiation, microwave therapy, and shortwave diathermy—can be beneficial. In cases of severe pain, local corticosteroid injection (local block) may be considered.
