Disease description:

Due to certain uterine conditions, I underwent a complete hysterectomy, but I still had menstrual bleeding this month. Is it possible to have menstruation after the uterus has been removed?

After a hysterectomy, there will be no menstruation. Menstruation is primarily caused by the cyclical changes of ovarian ovulation and the periodic fluctuations in estrogen and progesterone levels, which lead to proliferation, secretion, and shedding of the endometrium. When the endometrial lining sheds, menstrual bleeding occurs. However, if there is recurrent bleeding, you should go to the hospital to check for any cervical issues. Because if a total hysterectomy has been performed—meaning the entire uterus has been removed—menstruation will no longer occur.
