Although I currently don't have a sex life, I always feel as if the urethral opening appears to be just a small hole. I'd like to learn more about this—do the male urethra and ejaculation occur through the same opening?

Dr. Cao Zhiqiang

In males, the urethra serves as the passage for both urination and ejaculation, but the source of the fluids is different. Semen is produced in the testes and transported through structures such as the epididymis and vas deferens. During orgasm, rhythmic contractions of muscles propel the semen from the vas deferens into the urethra, behind the prostate gland, and then out of the body through the urethra. Therefore, although both urine and semen exit via the urethra, they originate from different sources.
