Where are the vocal cords located?
Disease description:
The doctor said my vocal cords are currently quite damaged and advised me to pay more attention. I was wondering, where exactly are the vocal cords located?
The vocal cords are generally located in the middle of the laryngeal cavity. The vocal cords consist of the vocal ligament, vocalis muscle, and mucous membrane. Since the vocal cords are symmetrical, they are typically situated within the throat and protected by two structures connecting to the trachea. One could say they function like a switch for the trachea. When using the throat, care should be taken to avoid loud shouting, as this may lead to edema of the vocal cord mucosa.
