Signs of Stunted Growth in Adolescents
Disease description:
My daughter used to grow taller every year, but there's been no change in the past two years. I'm really worried that she might not grow any taller. What are the signs that a teenager has stopped growing?
Signs that adolescents are not growing taller mainly manifest as the closure of growth plates. X-ray examination can assess the growth of long bones; if the epiphyseal plates have closed, it indicates that height growth has ceased. Prolonged malnutrition, genetic factors, and other reasons leading to no significant or no increase in height over 1–2 years suggest the cessation of growth. Additionally, increased muscle mass and a stockier build also indicate that height growth has stopped.
