Patients with cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) rhinorrhea typically present with symptoms such as headache, dizziness, and low intracranial pressure. Fractures of the anterior cranial base can damage the skull base bone and dura mater, leading to leakage of cerebrospinal fluid through the nasal cavity. Activities such as sneezing, coughing, defecation, and standing up may increase CSF production and exacerbate symptoms including headache, dizziness, and low intracranial pressure. The condition usually improves significantly when the patient lies down or receives intravenous fluids.
