Hello, doctor. I'd like to ask whether hepatitis B is contagious.

Doctor's answer (1)
Dr. Jin Zhongkui
Hepatitis B is an infectious disease primarily caused by infection through contact with the hepatitis B virus (HBV). The transmission routes of hepatitis B include the following: 1. Contact infection via unsanitized blood, such as through invasive procedures, sharing syringes, or blood transfusions; 2. Sexual transmission, whereby the virus spreads through sexual contact; 3. Mother-to-child transmission, where the virus may pass from an infected mother to her fetus during pregnancy; 4. Airborne transmission—meaning the virus spreads through gases exhaled by patients—but this route is uncommon; 5. Contact with a patient's blood, bodily fluids, sputum, or other secretions can also transmit the virus; 6. Sharing personal items such as towels and toothbrushes is another potential transmission route. Therefore, we should strictly adhere to hygiene principles, avoid close contact with hepatitis B virus carriers, eat more fresh vegetables and fruits to boost our immune system, wash hands frequently, and resolutely prevent infection with the hepatitis B virus through contact.
