Disease description:

I previously underwent treatment for prostatitis, and my condition is now well-controlled. However, during a recent follow-up examination, I was diagnosed with calcification of the prostate gland. I’m unsure whether this indicates a worsening of my condition or what it means exactly. Could you please explain what “prostatic calcification” means?

Hello, prostate calcification can be either physiological or pathological. Simple calcification does not require treatment; however, if prostatitis is present, active treatment is necessary. Prostate calcification refers to the deposition of calcium salts within the prostate gland. It commonly occurs secondary to prostatitis; after resolution of the inflammation, localized calcification may develop—representing an old, healed lesion. If prostate calcification is asymptomatic—i.e., causes no discomfort or other symptoms—no treatment is typically required. We hope this information is helpful to you. Wishing you a happy and healthy life!
