Disease description:

My husband was recently diagnosed with prostatitis. The symptoms are not very severe, mainly mild urinary frequency and urgency. He does not want to go to the hospital for treatment and hopes to recover through his own efforts. I would like to ask, can prostatitis resolve on its own?

Whether prostatitis can resolve on its own depends on the type of prostatitis and the severity of the condition. Mild non-infectious prostatitis may have the potential to heal naturally. However, acute bacterial prostatitis or more severe cases typically cannot resolve spontaneously and require timely medical treatment.

Chronic asymptomatic prostatitis with mild symptoms and no significant bacterial infection may potentially resolve through lifestyle modifications, such as improving diet, increasing physical activity, maintaining regular sexual activity, taking warm sitz baths, or undergoing prostate massage. One may try daily warm sitz baths, which can help improve local blood circulation in the prostate and alleviate inflammatory symptoms.

If the condition is severe or involves bacterial infection, these methods may not effectively relieve symptoms. In such cases, spontaneous recovery is unlikely, and prompt medical attention should be sought to prevent worsening of the condition. It is important to follow medical advice and use medications such as levofloxacin tablets, ciprofloxacin hydrochloride tablets, or amoxicillin tablets as prescribed.

During the illness, prolonged sitting should be avoided, and regular physical exercise, such as walking or jogging, should be practiced to improve overall physical health. Additionally, maintaining healthy dietary habits, quitting smoking, limiting alcohol consumption, reducing intake of spicy and irritating foods, and consuming more fresh vegetables and fruits are recommended.
