I’ve been feeling itchy under my armpits all afternoon while shopping, but I’m not sure why. Could you please tell me what might be causing underarm itching?

Hello, itching under the arms is primarily caused by overactive sweat glands, leading to excessive sweating. If the area is not cleaned and cared for promptly after sweating, it can become colonized by various microorganisms, resulting in infection and subsequent itching. Axillary (underarm) itching requires timely treatment; otherwise, the infection may progressively worsen and, in advanced stages, potentially lead to systemic health complications. Therefore, we recommend seeking medical evaluation as soon as possible—though surgical intervention is rarely indicated for simple axillary itching, appropriate diagnosis and targeted treatment (e.g., antifungal or antibacterial therapy, hygiene optimization, or management of hyperhidrosis) should be initiated promptly. We hope this information is helpful. Wishing you good health!
