What should epilepsy patients avoid eating?
Disease description:
What should epilepsy patients avoid eating?
Epilepsy patients should pay attention to their diet. The following are some foods they should avoid:
1. Stimulating foods: Spicy foods such as chili peppers and mustard, as well as "trigger" foods like mutton and dog meat, may stimulate brain nerves and trigger epileptic seizures.
2. Stimulating beverages: Drinks containing caffeine, such as coffee, strong tea, and cola, may increase cortical excitability and induce seizures.
3. High-potassium foods: Since epilepsy patients may have elevated blood potassium levels, intake of high-potassium foods should be limited. Examples include bananas and oranges. Daily potassium intake should not exceed 3 grams.
4. Greasy foods: High-fat and oily foods can impair digestive function of the spleen and stomach. Long-term indigestion may trigger epileptic episodes, so these foods should be avoided as much as possible.
