What should not be consumed with Cordyceps?
Recently, my father brought back some cordyceps when he returned from working out of town. However, I'm not sure if there are any foods or substances that shouldn't be consumed together with it. Doctor, what should not be taken with cordyces?
When consuming cordyceps, it is important to avoid taking it with certain foods or medications to prevent adverse reactions or reduced efficacy.
1. Cordyceps should not be consumed together with cold-natured foods, such as crabs, shrimp, sea fish, and other seafood, as well as ice-cold beer and ice cream. These foods may reduce the body's absorption of cordyceps and diminish its therapeutic effects.
2. Cordyceps should be avoided with spicy foods such as chili peppers, onions, and garlic, which can easily cause internal heat. Consuming these together with cordyceps may lead to discomforts like dry mouth and sore throat.
3. Cordyceps should not be taken concurrently with Chinese herbs that have laxative effects, such as rhubarb (Dahuang) and mirabilite (Mangxiao), to prevent antagonistic interactions and reduced effectiveness. Additionally, radish should also be avoided with cordyceps, as it accelerates intestinal motility, causing cordyceps to pass through the body more quickly and reducing absorption.
