Is a 1.5 cm gallstone severe?
Three days ago, I started experiencing abdominal pain, especially a persistent feeling of fullness in the upper abdomen, along with loss of appetite. After going to the hospital for an examination, I was diagnosed with gallstones, approximately 1.5 cm in size. Could you please tell me if a 1.5 cm gallstone is considered serious?
The severity of a 1.5 cm gallstone cannot be determined by stone size alone and requires comprehensive evaluation of multiple factors.
A 1.5 cm stone is relatively not considered particularly large, but if it repeatedly causes symptoms such as biliary colic, nausea, or vomiting, it should be taken seriously.
If the stone is associated with severe cholecystitis,明显 gallbladder wall thickening, or impaired gallbladder function, surgical treatment should be considered.
If there are multiple stones occupying most of the gallbladder space, this also constitutes a more serious condition.
The patient's overall health status, surgical history, and high-risk factors are also important considerations in assessing the severity of the gallstones.
The severity of a 1.5 cm gallstone must be evaluated by integrating all the above factors, and an appropriate treatment plan should be developed based on the individual clinical situation.
