Probiotics, as beneficial live microorganisms for the human body, should be taken with caution to avoid concurrent intake with certain foods or medications. Probiotics should not be consumed with excessively hot water, as high temperatures can destroy their viability. It is advisable to avoid taking probiotics simultaneously with antimicrobial agents or antibiotics, as these drugs may inhibit or kill the probiotic organisms, thereby reducing their effectiveness. Additionally, foods or beverages containing alcohol should also be avoided when taking probiotics, since alcohol may affect the growth and survival of probiotics. Foods high in tannins—such as persimmons and tea—should not be consumed together with probiotics either, because tannins can bind to probiotics and promote their excretion from the body, diminishing their efficacy.
