Disease description:

While taking a shower, I suddenly noticed many blister-like spots appearing on my body, especially on the neck and thighs, and they are itchy. I suspect it might be heat rash. I would like to ask, is it okay to apply talcum powder on the broken or ulcerated skin?

Talcum powder is generally not recommended for direct application on broken skin. Talcum powder is primarily used for the prevention and treatment of prickly heat rash. Its ingredients usually include talc, menthol, and Angelica dahurica, which provide a cooling and anti-itch effect. When the skin is broken, however, these ingredients may irritate the wound, delay healing, and even lead to bacterial infection. Therefore, for broken skin, it is advisable to use antiseptics such as povidone-iodine and, under a physician's guidance, apply antibiotic ointment for treatment. Additionally, maintaining cleanliness and dryness of the skin is also an important factor in promoting wound healing.
