What does it mean if the urine test shows high mucus threads?
Disease description:
For the past two days, I have noticed obvious sticky thread-like substances during urination. Could you please explain what might be causing this?
Elevated mucus threads in urinalysis mainly include the following causes:
1. Physiological phenomenon: In young individuals, those with good physical condition, or those with frequent sexual activity, increased glandular secretion may result in residual secretions not fully expelled from the urinary tract, leading to elevated mucus threads in the urine. This is a normal physiological phenomenon and generally not a cause for concern.
2. Dietary irritation: Regular consumption of spicy or irritating foods may stimulate secretion from the urethral glands, thereby increasing the level of mucus threads in the urine.
3. Urinary tract infection: Inflammatory conditions such as urethritis, cystitis, and prostatitis can cause an increase in inflammatory cells, mucosal damage, and increased exudate, all of which may significantly elevate the level of mucus threads in the urine. Patients may also experience symptoms such as frequent urination, urgency, and painful urination.
4. Other factors: Excessive sweating, insufficient water intake, or specimen contamination due to ejaculation before urine collection may also lead to elevated mucus threads in the urine.
