Will shingles appear on the hands?
Disease description:
I am 26 years old this year. Recently, I noticed severe itching on my hand, and after examination, I was diagnosed with herpes zoster. I would like to know whether herpes zoster can occur on the hand.

Shingles may develop on the hands, including the back of the hand, palm, and fingers. Shingles is a neurocutaneous disease caused by infection with the varicella-zoster virus. It is characterized by clusters of small blisters on the skin surface, accompanied by symptoms of itching and pain. These blisters typically follow a dermatomal distribution along the nerves, arranging in a band-like pattern, which is the reason for its name. Therefore, when the virus affects nerves in the hand, shingles may appear on the hand.
Treatment for shingles usually includes oral antiviral medications and topical agents to relieve symptoms, shorten the duration of the illness, and prevent complications. If shingles occurs, prompt medical consultation is recommended to receive professional diagnosis and treatment.
