Seafood, especially purine-rich foods such as river crabs and sea crabs, can be converted into uric acid in the body after consumption, increasing blood uric acid levels and potentially triggering or worsening gout symptoms. Therefore, gout patients are advised not to consume these foods.

Gout is an arthritic condition caused by hyperuricemia, primarily characterized by acute arthritis attacks with severe pain. Uric acid is one of the metabolic byproducts in the human body. Excess uric acid accumulates in the bloodstream, forming urate crystals that deposit in joints and surrounding tissues, leading to inflammatory reactions.

For patients in the acute phase of gout, due to elevated uric acid levels in the body, purine intake should be strictly controlled; therefore, consumption of river crabs and sea crabs is not recommended. For patients in the remission phase of gout, although the purine content of river crabs is relatively low, caution is still advised. Small amounts may be consumed occasionally, but frequent or excessive intake is not recommended. At the same time, patients should maintain healthy lifestyle habits, including balanced nutrition, moderate exercise, avoiding alcohol consumption, and controlling body weight, to reduce the risk of gout attacks.

If any adverse physical symptoms occur after consumption, prompt medical attention should be sought.
