What does a hypoechoic nodule mean?
Disease description:
I discovered a hypoechoic nodule during my examination today. What does “hypoechoic nodule” mean?
A hypoechoic nodule is an ultrasound finding indicating the presence of a solid tumor in the body. In contrast, hyperechoic nodules typically represent cysts or abscesses. Ultrasound can assess various features of hypoechoic nodules—including their size, growth pattern, and presence of blood flow signals. If a nodule is relatively large, a tissue biopsy is recommended for pathological examination; surgical excision may then be performed based on the biopsy results.
